Beautiful 18th Century Aubusson Tapestry.

This tapestry was hand-made in central France in the valley of the Creuse.

Aubusson Verdure tapestries originated from workshops set up between the towns of Clermont- Ferrand, and Limoges in France.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Aubusson successfully rivaled Gobelins and Beauvais tapestry.

They generally relied upon engravings, with their most famous tapestries decorated with illustrations drawn from the fables of French poet Jean de La Fontaine. Figures are set against a background of 'verdure' in Aubusson tapestries.

With signs of wear throughout, in the form of tears and dis-coloring.

Circa 1780.
