18th Century English Mahogany Elbow Chair
18th Century English Mahogany Armchair/Elbow Chair with Rectangular Splat Back.
This piece is clearly a fusion of different styles, having outscrolling arms, typical of those of the George I/II period, and fretwork brackets to the front legs typical of Chippendale period. The back splat with has a rectangular shape. The front legs have a fine moulding to the outer edge, a sign of quality.
Having a lovely colour and surface throughout and it is likely that it was produced in a north country provincial workshop, c.1760.
