18th Century Louis XV Period Walnut Bombe Commode
Fine 18th Century French Provincial Louis XV period walnut bombe form commode with handsomely inlaid parquetry top.
The Walnut commode of bombe form, but with an unusual rectangular top, inlaid with a starburst design in contrasting woods. The commode has three long drawers, retaining fine ormolu escutcheons, and stands on graceful cabriole legs terminating in hoof feet.
The piece has a shaped apron with a finely moulded edge which continues around the sides of the piece.
In combination with the bombe form, this makes this commode a very sculptural piece of furniture and something of a focal point. French commodes with inlaid tops rather than marble ones are relatively unusual.
