18th Century Louis XVI ecritoire writing table.
This is a superb example that is composed of veneered tulipwood with hot air balloon marquetry detail.
This table was likely commissioned to celebrate the first manned balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers, Paris, 1783. The small desk would have sat next to a fireside armchair and moved from room to room as required.
Featuring two small drawers, a pull-out writing slide, and a pull-up fire screen. These screens protected the face from the heat of the fire.
With a fantastic original color and patina with lovely silk covering that was later added.
