Set of ten original 18th Century Dutch monochrome engravings of Seashells by Georg Eberard Rumphius from "Thesaurus Imaginum Piscium Testaceorum". 


Presented in hand decorated silver-gilt/mirrored frames.


Rumphius was employed by the Dutch East India Company and spent the greater part of his life on the Island of Ambon, (part of present day Indonesia) a small but important trading centre. A brilliant field naturalist Rumphius was far ahead of his time in terms of accurate recording of all aspects of local ecology.
