1930s Decorative English Japanned Settee
Very Fine and Decorative 1930s English Lacquered or Japanned Settee in the Early 18th Century Manner.
This settee has a red ground and raised gilt decoration. Having shell details to the knees and the shepherd's crook arms. The japanning has aged beautifully, retaining an excellent colour but with charming signs of wear and tear that all add to the decorative appeal.
The decoration is a combination of figure subjects, particularly on the arms of the settee, birds and flowers.
This is a wonderfully decorative piece of 20th century chinoiserie. Stripped out ready to be upholstered.
