19th Century English Regency Ebonised Open Bookcase
Excellent Late Regency Ebonised Side Cabinet or Open Bookcase.
Consisting of an open structure with a single adjustable shelf.
Originally designed as an open bookcase, and is shallow in depth. It has an ebonised finish which shows signs of charming wear. There are gilt brass details throughout and a pierced gilt brass gallery to the top. Further gilt brass highlights to the columnar pilasters, the sides, the lower frieze and to each foot. The pilasters to each side of the shelves are great examples of the sophisticated turning that could be achieved at this time, combining leaf carved elements with diagonal fluting and a variety of baluster-form sections, terminating in finely formed toupie feet.
A visually striking piece of furniture both practical and decorative. Modern in look despite being some 200 years old.
