19th Century English Rosewood Card Table
Excellent 19th Century English Brass Inlaid Rosewood Card Table.
Veneered throughout in rosewood of excellent quality and figure, the piece has four hipped, sabre legs which join a central column of vase form with gadrooned carving to the base. Above the column is a fine frieze with gilt brass edge moulding and two paterae. Each leg is inlaid with repeating floral motifs in brass and the castors are exceptionally well cast and highly detailed in high relief. There are further areas of inlaid brass in the frieze at the base of the column and on the tabletop, this section in marquetry technique in the Boulle manner. One side of the table has a deep drawer for storing gaming equipment and the top is lined in baize as is usual in pieces of this sort.
