19th Century English Walnut Centre Table
Late 19th Century Octagonal Walnut Centre/Library Table by Maple & Co.
The centre of the top features the original tooled leather insert. The top is decorated with a finely carved edge moulding, echoed in the details carved in to the tops and bottoms of the drawer fronts. The drawers retain their original brass handles which are finely cast and of excellent quality. The table stands on four square sectioned legs with fluted detailing which are joined by a moulded platform stretcher with downturned feet and original brass castors.
As would be expected from a piece made and sold by Maples, one of the leading firms of furnishers in this period, the craftsmanship is first class. The timber used is well seasoned, well figured and beautifully matched.
An attractive and practical piece of furniture by a great maker.
