19th Century French Arras Iron Table

  • H: 72 cm (28 3/8")
  • W: 300 cm (118 1/8")
  • D: 73 cm (28 3/4")

Long 19th Century French Arras iron table.

This wonderful table features a curvaceous wrought-iron support structure.

Age and wear have revealed layers of old paint, adding to the authenticity and charm of this piece.

The town of Arras, in northern France, was a major producer of wrought-iron furniture in the 19th Century.

Garden furniture was produced up until the First World War, when the factory was repurposed for the war effort.

Arras pieces are known for being both highly durable and very stylish. Much of the beauty of this furniture comes from the method of manufacture.

The factory used a unique style of extrusion, which gave the iron a more rounded surface. This made it more comfortable and prevented the gathering of water which caused rust.

Emphasis was on beauty as well as practicality, and the organic curves seen in the base of this table are typical of Arras design.

Feet are the easiest way to identify an Arras piece, with this table ending in the distinctive cast iron horses hooves.

This table would make a stunning statement piece in a garden or conservatory.
