19th Century French Vendange Table

Wonderful 19th Century French tilt-top vendange table.
The stunning large plank top is supported by an elegant twisting base with a rare turned screw support.
The tabletop is decorated with the winery's own decorative wine label, Saint Émilion Grand Cru.
It also states the name of the château: Laroque. Laroque in St Emilion dates back to the 12th Century, and remained in the same family until the depression of 1929.
Painted decoration to the centre shows their branding: two lions flanking a coat of arms, with a crown above and Latin motto below.
The Latin, nec pluribus impar, translates to 'not unequal to many,' or- as is more fitting in this case- 'a match for everyone.' This motto in its raw meaning was adopted by The Sun King, Louis XIV of France, from 1658.
This table would have been slid in and out between the barrels to sample and taste the wines at the end of the season.
This is at once a wonderful rustic table and a fabulous statement piece. The whole is supported on basic trestle legs.
It will have wonderful decorative presence in any setting and has a fascinating history.
