Late 19th Century Italian anchovy or sardine pot from Puglia.
This type of pottery is know as ‘robba bianca’. Representing the finest and most expensive kind of domestic ‘ceramic rustica’ made with a pewter glaze, twice fired.
This has been used for many years to preserve food so shows some signs of wear and use.
Circa 1880.
