19th Century Italian Bowl
This large antique hand thrown bowl known as a ‘pendriale’ dates back to the late 1800s.
It originates from Grottaglie, the town in the southern Italian region of Puglia known for its age old ceramic craft and tradition. The large vessel was originally used as a ‘wash basin’, most commonly to wash fruit and vegetables. The rustic bowl features a charming, glazed interior in a creamy buttermilk hue. It also features two holes on the rim, so it could be conveniently hung above the kitchen.
The large rustic bowl has that authentic, magical patina from years of daily use, with the external terracotta unglazed and on display. The antique vessel is perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen bench or table, or as a unique storage vessel.
