19th Century Italian yeast jar with lid from Grottaglie, a small town in Puglia famous for its production of ceramics.
Decorated with splashes of green that were believed to disturb flies and insects and prevent them from flying near the pots and their precious contents.
Please note there are two cracks to the lid, commensurate with age.
