Decorative 19th Century confit pot, from Provence, in unusual green and blue glaze.

This traditional vessel is made of earthenware such as which was once used daily in France for preserving food. Confit means “to preserve”; the glazed pots were used for storing cooked meats - buried in the ground to preserve the meat without refrigeration, primarily for dishes like cassoulet or foie gras.

It is in great condition for its age with an attractive amount of weathering.
