Painted 19th Century chest of drawers from the workshop of Johan Nils Asplind.
Asplind was a Swedish Old Masters artist, active in Falun in Sweden between 1756 and 1820.
He was given permission by the Manufacturers' Court to establish himself as an ornamental painter and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
Asplind would decorate pieces of furniture made by local joiners in his workshop. His distinctive furniture can be seen today in various Swedish museums.
This chest of drawers features a lovely painted frieze across the top, with Asplind's signature garlands of roses extending around the sides.
Some parts have been touched up, but the stunning paint on this piece is largely in its original distressed form. The colour is particularly beautiful, in varying shades of pinky red.
With its original label still on the back, this chest rests on square tapering legs.
This piece is full of charm, and will bestow a dose of colour and femininity on any interior.
