Early 20th Century Anatolian Carpet

  • H: 418 cm (164 9/16")
  • W: 328 cm (129 1/8")

Early 20th Century Anatolian carpet, circa 1900.

Anatolian carpets have a rich heritage of rug weaving which began in the 13th Century and were amongst the first wave of Oriental carpets that were exported to Europe.

Many were seen in iconic paintings of many European masters including Memling, Lotto and Hans Holbein. Today these decorative carpets are highly appreciated for their simple designs, soft colours and lustrous wool.

An attractive Anatolian carpet dating to the beginning of the early 20th Century with a simple overall monochrome drawing. The rare greeny/grey colour field provides a great contrast to the harmonious variety of colours which is framed by a wide border.

This antique Anatolian carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use and still retains its original fringes and selvedges on all sides. The variety of colours are all natural and vegetable dyed and have nicely aged.

A stylish example with a quiet formality to blend in a wide variety of interior styles.
