Early 20th Century Ivory Field Tekke Main Carpet
This handsome example has a rare ivory field and is rumoured to have been woven as a wedding gift.
Woven for many centuries by the highly skilled weavers of the Tekke tribes in Turkoman in Central Asia, Tekke rugs are highly sought-after for their superb quality wool and use of natural dyes in their rich colours.
Their beauty is undeniable and they are timeless treasures to blend in a wide variety of spaces. It has a remarkably tight weave which explains the clarity of its crisp drawing.
The drawing is pleasantly spacious and the ivory field provides a great contrast to the harmonious, vegetable-dyed colours. It is framed by over a dozen borders within borders.
This fine Tekke carpet is in excellent condition and still retains its original borders and Kilim fringes on both sides which is a rare and remarkable feature for a rug dating over 100 years ago.
This timeless classic will be a wonderful addition to a classic or contemporary setting.
