Beautiful 20th Century mirrored silver plate 'surtout de table' by Gallia for Christofle.
With a rectangular mirror base and scalloped sides with fluted edges and stylized laurel wreath handles. This elegant mirrored centrepiece has an oak back and is raised on silver plate bun feet. Impressed stamps and hallmarks.
Surtout de tables are ornate centrepieces for the formal dining table, on which candelabras, flower displays, ornaments or fine dining accessories can be displayed. Gallia was created at the time of the famous Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris.
From 1900, skilled artists and designers gathered under the name Gallia in collaboration with the renown house of Christofle. For over 100 years, the rooster hallmark of Gallia became a symbol of quality and the avant-garde.
