Early 20th Century Fine Veramin Carpet
20th century fine veramin carpet.
Antique Veramin carpets are widely recognized as among the most exceptional Persian workshop weavings, best known for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings and wide variety of rich vegetable-dyed colours.
Early Veramin pieces would have been woven by the Shahsavan tribe, who settled in the city of Veramin after migrating from Northwest Persia, bringing with them the characteristic designs that set these carpets apart from those from the neighboring regions.
This fine early example features a charming pomegranate blossom lattice design, symbolizing prosperity, fertility and longevity, originally drawn from 18th Century rugs from Azerbaijan. The drawing – which, owing to the skill of its artist, has a remarkably crisp quality – is in tones of terracotta and ivory, over a light sky blue ground and framed by a wide border; a restrained palette and spacious composition, in relation to its format.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders preserved on all sides - its organic vegetable dyes have taken on a charming age-related patina.
A timeless piece, to suit a tasteful interior.
