Posed confidently with knee resting on a chair and looking over her shoulder, a French nude against a backdrop of green and ochre draped fabric.
The slightly distressed cushion frame has remains of gold leaf. Antoine Chartres (1903 - 1968) was born in Lyon. He studied Fine Arts in Lyon and went on to teach at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Painting in the Modernist manner of Cezanne, he exhibited at Salons and Museums in Paris, Turin and Lyon.
