20th Century French Signed Watercolour and Charcoal Sketch
A wonderful offering of both the preliminary sketch and the dedicated watercolour by Paul Paquereau, dated 1927.
The dedication reads "At the Old Sea Wolf, to Duclos, with all regard."
The watercolour shows a man with a blue chequered neck scarf and a smock (he has lost the preliminary earring.)
Paquereau (17.1.1871 to 2.3.1956) was an artist, illustrator and theatre designer. He designed decors for the Ballets Russes, La Comédie Francaise, The Met in NYC and the opera houses of Chicago and London. He was close to artists such as Breton, Dufy, Dufresne. He was known for his brightly coloured watercolours set in Provence, Normandy and the South West.
The watercolour is newly mounted in its old frame and the sketch is newly mounted in a new black wood frame.
