20th Century Gabbeh Rug

Gabbeh rugs have been woven for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Persia’s Zagros Mountains, and are widely appreciated as highly desireable tribal weavings thanks to their simple, graphic designs and top-quality wool.
This striking example, dating to the 1940s, features an especially minimalist design, with a simple muted hazelnut diamond motif in the central field, framed by the charcoal grey spandrels, with delicate ivory and ochre red accents in the hooked motifs throughout– owing to the natural, undyed wool used in its construction, all of the colours in this piece have subtle variations in tone, adding a real sense of depth and charm to its otherwise stripped back design.
Retained in excellent condition, this rug would make a stylish addition to any setting.
