The traditional weaving workshops of Western Anatolia, where Oushak carpets like this one originated, trace back to the Early Modern period. By the 19th century, these rugs started being produced in Turkey, garnering significant popularity in the burgeoning Western market. Oushaks such as this are often found in a number of historic and courtly homes across Europe and the UK.
This 1920s example features a warm red field with distinct and bold graphic features and a variety of natural dyed colours including hints of green and blue-grey. An attractive feature is the uniformity of the central design and the main border.
This antique Oushak carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use, having still retained its original fringes and outer borders after more than a century.
A classic decorative carpet to add warmth and character to a variety of settings.
