20th Century Ziegler Carpet
Ziegler Sultanabad carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, to complement European furnishing tastes. Their unique, grand scale drawing, quiet formality, and understated colours made them sought-after additions in stately homes across the UK and Europe. This example represents a late 20th Century reinterpretation of the high-end Ziegler carpets of this period. Featuring a sophisticated palette of gracefully aged vegetable-dyed wool, the terracotta ground in the central field is tastefully accented by repeating floral motifs in shades of gold, sage green, and ivory, bordered by a frame of great proportions. With a balanced, open composition, the overall drawing exudes an understated elegance. This carpet has been Maintained in very good to excellent condition for everyday use. A versatile addition to compliment a wide range of interiors.
