These engravings are from a book of artistic studies. The full title of the work, edited by John Dougall, was 'The Cabinet of Arts: Being a New and Universal Drawing Book Forming a Complete System of Drawing; Painting in all its Branches, Etching and Engraving.'
German-born Rudolph Ackermann first came to England in the 1780s and pioneered lithography. He established his own publishing house, Ackermann & Co, in 1795.
