18th Century Swedish Marriage Coffer
Charming 18th Century Swedish marriage coffer, with its original painted decoration.
Dowry/ marriage chests were a widespread tradition across all continents. They were sent with the bride to her new marital home, and filled with sentimental pieces and bits and pieces for setting up a household.
This lovely example features a charming painted panel to the lid, and a dappled effect throughout. The interior is lined with sheet music.
This coffer is raised up on pronounced cabriole legs. It would make a good side table, offering the added benefit of storage.
A truly lovely piece, full of history and character.
