19th Century Silver Bistro Mirror

Late 19th Century French silver gilt bistro mirror with original plate.

These elegantly simple frames were very modern in their time, echoing the Impressionists disdain for any over-the-top decoration.

They were usually hung landscape behind the bars in French Cafes, as in Édouard Manets ‘ A Bar at the Follies-Bergère’ 1881.
