19th Century French Arras Table
19th Century French Arras garden table.
The circular top rests over a triform base with down swept supports and two stretchers. The lower of which features a decorative roundel, and terminating in Arras's signature lion's paw feet.
The northern town of Arras was famous for its iron foundries, which produced this beautiful style of furniture up until the Second World War.
They used a unique method of extrusion - 'demi tube' - which gave the iron a rounded finish. This allows surface water to drain and prevent rust. It also made for a much more comfortable seat!
Arras furniture peppered private and public outdoor spaces in France since production began in 1840 until it ceased in the mid 20th Century.
This table is in its original paint with wonderful rustic wear and patination on the top.
