19th Century Heriz Carpet
Unusual circa 1890, Heriz carpet with a spontaneous drawing rather than the central medallion motif.
Early Heriz carpets from northwest Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction and creative vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs.
They have always stood out for their aesthetically appealing designs. The tribal characteristics of Heriz carpets give them the ability to blend in both contemporary and classic spaces.
The muted blue field has a subtle colour variation (abrash) which provides a great contrast to the creative drawing and the array of vegetable-dyed colours, framed by a wide red border.
This Heriz carpet is in very good condition for everyday use.
This is an attractive example with a tribal charm and character to blend in contemporary and classic settings, rare in this small furnishing size.
