20th Century Framed Evangelical Lion
Unusual piece of 20th Century Mosaic Artwork depicting an Evangelical Lion from the biblical text, Book of Durrow, a precursor to The Book of Kells.
This particular piece depicts the Lion representing John, one of the Gospel icons.
The Book of Durrow is a hand-written and hand-illustrated gospel manuscript named after the Christian monastery of Durrow in central Ireland, it is an illuminated manuscript dated to Circa 700 that consists of text from the four Gospels gospel books, written in an Irish adaption of Vulgate Latin, and illustrated in the Insular script style.
Today the text resides in the Library of Trinity College Dublin.
Recently reframed, with new hanging brackets attached.
