19th Century Bidjar Carpet

Beautiful 19th-Century Bidjar carpet has a unique drawing of roses and leaves inspired by early European textiles.

The muted blue colour field has a natural colour variation (abrash), providing great contrast to the monochrome design and is framed by a creative border. The harmonious colours are vegetable dyed which have aged nicely.

Antique Bidjar carpets from northwest Persia are famed among Persian tribal village rugs for the quality of their tight precise weaves and dazzling interaction of designs and colours.

Bidjar is situated in a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia and the Caucasus so has a weaving tradition that encompasses a varied mix of cultural influences. This can be seen in the broad range of styles and patterns in Bidjar carpets which makes them unique and challenging in trying to distinguish them from rugs from other regions.

They are diverse and versatile pieces that would complement both classic and contemporary settings.

In very good practical condition for everyday use with some very minor age-related wear, which gives it wonderful character.  It has still retained its original fringes on both sides.

A unique example of a Bidjar carpet has tribal charm to compliment a variety of settings.
