Early 20th Century Tibetan Carpet
A unique and elegant early 20th Century Tibetan carpet.
In a room-size format that was likely commissioned at the time for someone of title as most Tibetan rugs were woven in a small rug format.
The blue field provides a great contrast to the striking design where each drawing in the central field is creatively repeated in various colour compositions.
The charming array of colours are vegetable-dyed and it is framed by a simple red border.
This antique Tibetan carpet has very special, silky wool. Rug weaving in Tibet stretches back hundreds if not thousands of years. In excellent condition, still retaining its original outer border and fringes on both sides.
A highly decorative carpet that would add great character to a stylish interior.
