Mid 20th Century Louis Sognot Desk
Mid 20th century freeform cane and rattan desk attributed to the French designer Louis Sognot.
It has one drawer and side shelf.
Circa 1950, France, Louis Sognot [1892-1970] was a French designer best known for his elegant furniture made from a combination of rattan and wood. Sognot was influenced by Art Deco and Cubist aesthetics, giving his work a unique stylistic flair while also being usable.
Born on May 25, 1892 in Paris, France, Sognot studied at the École Bernard-Pablissy before working as a designer at the Au Printemps department store in Paris in 1919.
The designer went on to become a founding member of the Union des Artistes Decoroteurs.
He died in 1970 in Paris, France.
