Empire Style Writing Desk
Empire-style writing desk.
Of French origin and dating from the Early 20th Century, this ebonised writing desk has a leather inset top with two drawers to each side. The drawers flank the central kneehole below with a long drawer above. The whole is supported on circular tapered legs surmounted by carved collars and reeded legs.
With its circular tapered legs and emphasis on straight lines, this desk is very much in the Louis XVI taste.
With its charming simplicity, it would make a very elegant addition to any reception room, be it a study or drawing-room, and would blend in with other pieces of different periods and styles very easily.
