Lamb of Manchester was founded by James Lamb, and was an important proponent of the Aesthetic Movement.

The Aesthetic Movement preceded Arts & Crafts in reacting against the ugliness of the industrial revolution. These designers advocated 'art for art's sake,' with beauty as a top priority.

James Lamb was one of the most prolific cabinet-maker's outside of London at this time, and he was dedicated to quality of craftsmanship and design. He used only the finest materials, as exhibited by this piece

Lamb of Manchester produced furniture for the wealthy industrial families of the north.

This is a fantastic piece, which embodies the attention to detail and skilled craftsmanship that defined furniture design of the period.
