This handsome Tabriz carpet, attributed to Hadji Jalili, has an understated monochrome drawing and harmonious vegetable-dyed colour combination of muted grey and tan, ivory, and a touch of red.

The city of Tabriz in northwest Persia has been a major city of fine weaving since the 14th Century. It experienced an artistic revival at the end of the 19th Century and saw the emergence of one of the most important and influential Master weavers of the era, Hadji Jalili.  He created magnificent court carpets with his unique creative drawings using light colour palettes and impeccable workmanship making them much sought after by interior designers and collectors.  The best Tabriz carpets of this era are attributed to him and his workshop.

The natural colour variation (abrash) in the field gives the rug great depth and richness and the carpet has retained all original borders and fringes.

A sophisticated piece to blend in a contemporary or classic room.
