18th Century Basset French Oak Armoire
French 19th Century armoire in a fantastic dark oak finish and wonderful hand carved details.
Featuring a shaped cornice that sits above paneled doors on long steel barrel hinges, with a nautical star hand carved at the center point. Region of armoire links nautical star to the La Rochelle region of SW France.
This piece retains its original locking systems and one key inside including original hook and brace. The doors unlock to reveal a large storage cavity with three natural oak finish adjustable shelves covered in hessian. This incredible storage piece is highly decorative with multi panels, molded edges.
Unique in that it is a Basset (smaller) armoire and can fit into hones that do not lend itself to taller ceiling heights or into that awkward space. In wonderful antique condition, it has gained a fine patina and sits sturdily on thick scrolled legs that connect with a heavily detailed apron that’s design is also included on each of the sides.
