Small 19th Century French Arras Chair
Charming French 19th Century Arras chair.
This is an unusual model and is smaller than the more common Arras chairs but still very comfy for an adult. Featuring their decorative eponymous lion's paw feet.
The northern town of Arras was famous for its iron foundries, which produced this beautiful style of furniture up until the Second World War.
They used a unique method of extrusion - 'demi tube' - which gave the iron a rounded finish. This allows surface water to drain and prevent rust. It also made for a much more comfortable seat!
Arras furniture peppered private and public outdoor spaces in France since production began in 1840 until it ceased in the mid 20th Century.
Their garden furniture combines durability and a stylish aesthetic, as seen within the design of this chair.
Arras furniture is very intelligently designed as well as being beautiful - the perfect scenario!
