Italian mid 20th Century black lacquered commode by Carlo de Carli, circa 1960. 

This commode has a smart rectilinear profile. It offers three drawers with gilt metal handles and rests on square legs with unusual brass sabots. 

It was designed by the influential architect and designer Carlo de Carli (1910-1999) and manufactured by Sormani. 

De Carli was noted for his architectural approach to furniture design. He was a student of Gio Ponti and later opened his own studio. His innovative ideas helped to establish the worldwide reputation of Italian 20th Century design.
