French 19th Century copper Comté cheese vat, from the mountains of the Jura region of Eastern France.

Comté cheese has been manufactured in Jura since the 12th Century, begun by shepherds living in remote huts in the region. Vats such as this one were used to cook the milk to make the cheese.

This large vat has a wonderful shape and stunning verdigris patina. This piece would make a striking planter, water feature or just decorative feature. 

Retaining a small drainage pipe, which can be removed, sealed or left, depending on desired use.
