Contemporary Handwoven Oushak Carpet
The traditional weaving workshops of Western Anatolia, where Oushak carpets like this one originated, trace back to the Early Modern period.
By the 19th Century, these rugs started being produced in Persia and began to garner significant popularity in the burgeoning Western market. Oushaks such as this may be found in many historic and courtly homes across Europe and the UK.
This particular carpet, handwoven in Turkey using the traditional wool-on-wool technique seen in 19th-century Oushak rugs, presents a modern reimagining of these luxurious pieces. It features a large-scale pattern with an open, elegant design, a wonderful duck egg blue central field flanked by ivory — a palette which gives the impression of lightness and air one finds in a Modern word, while maintaining the artistry of traditional Oushak carpets.
A sophisticated piece to elevate any interior.
