Contemporary Mid-Century Swedish Design Kilim
Flatweave carpets – known as röllakan – have been woven in Sweden since the 17th Century or earlier but experienced a particular revival in the mid-20th Century.
Incorporating elements of both mid-century modern and folk design. These pieces are widely sought after by collectors and designers today, known for their elegant simplicity and charm.
This finely handwoven contemporary kilim, inspired by mid-century modern Swedish pieces, represents a wonderful example of its type. Perhaps its most attractive feature is the subtle variation in tone, achieved by the interweaving of various muted tones of denim and duck egg blue in each panel. Lending a great sense of depth and character to the otherwise restrained, minimalist composition of the central field and well complemented by the light saffron and ivory accents in the drawing.
A stylish, understated carpet, which would feel at home in any setting.
