  • H: 140 cm (55 1/8")
  • W: 64 cm (25 3/16")
  • D: 55 cm (21 5/8")

Wonderful hooded Orkney chair, retailed and stamped by Liberty & Co. Dating to the early 1900s.

This characterful chair is a superb example of its type, in oak and black oat straw.

It features a tall rounded hood and a square seat with a woven inset.

Resting on square legs with supporting stretchers.

The Orkney chair's iconic design, with its tall enclosing back, emerged to protect Orkney residents from the freezing draughts that would rattle through their homes.

The design came from David Kirkness, himself an Orkney resident. The fine quality of this chair suggests it may come from Kirkness's workshop.

Orkney chair's bring wonderful vernacular character to any interior. They look brilliant at the end of a hall or in the corner of a room.
