Wonderful French early 19th Century framed oil on canvas allegorical painting.
On horseback, Death is depicted in the form of a skeleton holding an arrow and hourglass. He sits behind a smiling gentleman bearing a bottle of wine. Together, they ride over a grave where we see a skull and bones. Entitled 'Les Inseperables' [Trans: The Inseperables].
This rare and extraordinary piece dates to the early 19th century and is presented in a distressed frame of the period.
