Early 19th Century Italian Mahogany Centre Table
Fine Quality Early 19th Century Italian Centre Table with Rams Head Detailing.
This lovely Italian table combines elements associated with the French Empire designers and the designer George Smith in England. The top is of finely figured quilted mahogany, beautifully bookmatched and of excellent colour. The three long supports for the top terminate in wonderfully carved rams heads, upon a tripartite platform base and paw feet with parcel gilt detailing.
The quality of the carving and the timbers used throughout this piece are truly top notch and the design is light and elegant. This table is ideal as the focal point for a room and is a very unusual take on the familiar guéridon theme that became so popular throughout Europe in the early 19th century.
