Early 20th Century Baktiar Carpet
Early 20th century Baktiar carpet.
Antique Baktiar carpets from Western Persia have one of the most intriguing and distinct styles of any antique Persian rug, boasting a fascinating historical heritage and character.
They are one of the few types of Persian weavings that encompass both nomadic tribal and classic designs and are notable for their high wool quality and wide colour palettes.
This fine early example employs a series of palmettes, creatively repeated across in a variety of designs and colours, including tones of tan, sage green, terracotta and muted indigo, all in organic vegetable dyes, which have taken on a charming patina with age.
The central field is well framed by a three-part border, with a floral motif over an ivory ground.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders and short fringes preserved on all sides.
A striking carpet, to add personality to any setting.
