Early 20th Century Qum Carpet

  • H: 372 cm (146 7/16")
  • W: 278 cm (109 7/16")
Rug weaving in the city of Qum only started in the beginning of the 20th century and the city quickly established itself as the centre for exceptional fine weaving.

Qum is known for their unique decorative carpets with classically precise drawings and luxurious wool, setting it appart from other Persian weaving centres.

This is an attractive, fine Qum carpet with harmonious, vegetable dyed colour composition of ivory, light green, terracotta and sky blue that have gracefully aged.

The balanced paisley drawing is derived from early Persian textiles of the early 18th Century, symbolising longevity and prosperity.

In very good practical condition for everyday use with a slight age related wear that adds great charm and character.

A unique example that would make a great addition to a variety of settings, rare in this large furnishing size.
