Traditional 19th Century French confit pot.
This is a traditional vessel, made of earthenware. Originally, this would have been used daily, in France for preserving food. Confit means “to preserve”; the glazed pots were used for storing cooked meats buried in the ground to preserve cooked meat without refrigeration, primarily for dishes like cassoulet or foie gras.
This pot is in great condition for its age and shall continue to age beautifully with use.
