Superb English 20th Century giltwood mirror, circa 1900.

The foxed, bevelled plate has a foliate border with strap work and scrolling. The crest is centred on a classical female head with a deeply carved foliate headdress flanked by boldly carved C-scrolls topped with a broken arch.

The gilding has wonderfully worn revealing various layers of gesso, bole, clay and carved wood.
